Selective Mutism Family Support Groups

We’re thrilled to announce that Coventry Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Service, in collaboration with Coventry Educational Psychology Service, will be running some Selective Mutism Family Support Groups during the coming terms of 2024/ 2025. This initiative, modelled after successful programs in other local authorities, is specifically designed for Coventry parents and caregivers of children and young people (CYP) with selective mutism.

What is the purpose of these groups?

The group is intended to provide a safe forum to talk about Selective Mutism, share ideas and experiences and provide support and information for parents/ carers. It is not intended to be a therapy session so please do not bring your child or young person to these sessions.

What happens at a selective mutism family support group meeting?

Participants are encouraged to share a positive experience and ask questions but participation is voluntary and you are welcome to engage at whatever level you feel comfortable. We discuss received questions collectively, finding that advice for one Child or Young Person often benefits the entire group.

Where will the groups be held?

Groups will be held online, facilitated by a Speech and Language Therapist and Educational Psychologist, each lasting approximately 1 hour. Sessions will be on Microsoft Teams.

When will the groups be held?
